Opening the Legacy Circle…
A continuing community of legacy families and custodians, carrying shared values into purposeful action for the future of Global Africa.
The Africa House Legacy Initiative brings together descendants and recognised custodians of significant Pan-African, liberation, civil rights, peace, social justice, cultural and institution-building legacies. Across Africa and its global diaspora, we connect those entrusted with these histories with contemporary leaders and institutional partners who share a commitment to carrying their values forward.
Our purpose is to preserve important histories, build trusted relationships and create opportunities for generations to learn from one another and contribute to the future of Global Africa.

Founded by Kojo Annan and Shanthi Annan, the Initiative held its inaugural gathering at the Africa House Global Assembly in New York in September 2026. Families and custodians came together to reflect on what their legacies ask of them today and what they could make possible together.
With Samia Nkrumah as Chair, that founding moment is growing into a continuing Circle: a community shaped by its Founders and Founding Patrons, and sustained through relationships, shared learning and purposeful collaboration.
Legacy lives through the people who care for it. That work takes many forms: preserving archives and oral histories, building foundations, serving communities, creating culture, mentoring young people and passing knowledge and values through families.
We recognise descendants, spouses, parents, guardians and other custodians for the substance of their contribution. Family connection creates a relationship to a legacy; active stewardship gives that relationship contemporary meaning. Each generation has a responsibility to carry it forward with integrity.
Our histories are distinct, and every family and legacy has equal standing. We are connected by a commitment to dignity, freedom, justice, peace, unity, service and responsibility, and by the belief that stronger relationships between Africa and its global diaspora can widen what we achieve together.
The Circle is a space to listen, exchange experience and build trust. Each family retains custodianship of its own story. We approach private conversations with care and respect, and recognise meaningful individual contribution within our shared purpose.
Members are shaping a programme that connects legacy with the questions facing Global Africa today. Emerging directions include reparatory justice; trade, investment and practical cooperation; equitable African representation in global governance; memory and education; and the development of responsible future leaders.
These directions remain open to member input and partner collaboration. Participation is voluntary, and collective positions require express agreement. Through private gatherings, working conversations, mentorship and practical projects, we aim to turn trusted relationships into sustained contribution.
